Main Conclusions
The survey responses showed a mind set of respondents, perhaps indeed an expectation, to experience short term tenures with their employment.
There was a desire for structured coaching and mentoring being introduced to encourage retention.
There was a stated inadequacy of the annual performance and appraisal system.
Ongoing coaching was the preferred method of development by everyone (71%) who stated that a development program would influence their decision to remain with their current employer.
Key Insights
54% of respondents have worked for more than 4 organisations and 34% have been with their current employer for less than 12 months.
Senior executives and Mid-level executives account for 64% of the total who have been currently employed for less than 12 months.
51% of respondents indicated they are planning to leave their current employment within 1 year and 20% within 2 years.
71% of all respondents and 63% of the senior and mid level managers surveyed would remain in their current employment if they were offered a structured ongoing development program.
71% of respondents indicated a strong preference for ongoing coaching as their preferred development intervention.
Only 43% of respondents spent in excess of 3 hours a year on the Employee Appraisal.
45% of respondents rated the Appraisal and Review method as ineffective.
